Once Upon a Time
Tell us about something that happened to you in real life last week — but write it in the style of a fairy tale.
(This is a story about me and my struggles with ‘attention deficit disorder’.)
Once upon a time there was a young man. This man seemed normal to the eye but if you were to see into his mind, he was the very most peculiar. You see, this man had a brain that worked around the clock; tick tock, tick tock. It was like it was made of gears that continued to pull and grind, not giving the brain a moment to rest.
It was because of this unfortunate problem, this man could not gather his thoughts correctly and at each moment of his life, he was given a number of possibilities to choose from for every occasion. This left him confused and unable to make choices without spending too much time thinking about each one.
People claimed he was lazy, which he was, but this problem didn’t really help in that department. It was because of this unfortunate problem that he was always feeling tired as his mind was constantly at work, not giving him a moments rest.
The people around him thought him as a day-dreamer and a bit slow because he was often in his own thoughts, often random. He could not pay attention to the things that didn’t spark his interest and those that did, he could not get his mind out of. It was a predicament most strange and one he did not know how to overcome. It was because of this unfortunate problem people thought he was unreliable and irresponsible.
His wife often found him not paying attention to her words. He was too busy looking into her eyes and thinking of many different things at the same time, both past and future, hence forgetting about what she had said in the present. It was because of this unfortunate problem that he had troubles with his relationship at times.
Besides all of this, he remained positive in life as the smallest things could set off his imagination and send him into the world of fairies, dragon’s and fantasy. He found his imagination far more interesting than reality and thus he used his thoughts to keep himself occupied, often ignoring the problems that surrounded his life.
He kept on trying hard, despite the lazy, irresponsible and unreliable tags he carried. He continued to devour his wife in undeniable love that she could not help but forgive him for his mistakes. He did not let his unfortunate problem get the better of him as he used his non-stop brain-power as a gift and used it to express his imagination in the form of writing.
In the end, the hero of our story accepted his unfortunate problem and lived happily ever after.
