Fiction vs Non Fiction: The Great Divide

So for today’s Daily Prompt, we have…

The Great Divide

When reading for fun, do you usually choose fiction or non-fiction? Do you have an idea why you prefer one over the other?

When I read for fun, its got to be fiction. A good story will keep me occupied for hours. And by hours, I mean hours. Because I get so fascinated, I got to finish the book as soon as possible.

I can’t really think of many non-fictions that I’ve read. I have read a few autobiographies and stuff. I think I liked Jackie Chan’s and Hulk Hogan’s but that’s all I remember.

With fiction, I mostly read fantasy and shit. No I don’t mean I literally read fictions stories about shit but I meant it like… Never-mind.

I tend to read a lot of books that follow a series. I tend to enjoy it that way…

Books that comes to mind are:

  • – Harry Potter Series
  • – Twilight Series
  • – Hunger Games Series
  • – Divergent Series (Although not read the last one)
  • – Eragon Series (Again, not read the final one)
  • – Fallen in our Stars

There are actually many many more, but I don’t recall them. I used to read a couple of books a week whilst I was a teenager, regularly visiting my local library, borrowing 10 books at a time for a 3 week period. Those were the days…

The reason why I prefer fiction to non-fiction is because I have a great imagination… And I believe I can relate better to things that don’t exist in comparison to things that are real. Reality is boring whereas Fantasy is exhilarating. Perhaps its because I’m still a child at heart and non-fiction seems too grown up. I am not quite sure but I guess it all depends on personal preference. I don’t think this will ever change for me.
